 o becoming the President of Sears\, Roebuck and Co. He amassed a significa
 nt fortune and supported education\, arts\, sciences and culture by using 
 his wealth to fund over 5000 schools for black children in the South and b
 y providing scholarships to Black artists\, musicians\, and other professi
 onals. Little is known about this great philanthropist because most of his
  giving was done quietly. In this course we will look at the life and lega
