Railroads in America played a vital role during World War II – especially considering the limitations of trucking at the time. The challenge was to improve the logistics of organizing the transport of weapons, materials, and troops during this crisis. This required efficient coordination between the U.S. government and private railroads in order to help America and the Allies win this war. We will look at this history as we assess, in conclusion, how it applies to railroads in America today.
