For the nautical adventurers who enjoy sailing ships and their history, this new MORE class is just for you! This class on the historical profile of wooden sailing ships will focus on their types and basic design characteristics, voyages and adventures, ship-building, and typical life aboard various sailing ships from their early inception in ancient Egypt to the age of steam power and steel-hull-constructed designs. Part One of this course will specifically cover a historical perspective of wooden ships from ancient times to the 15th century. Numerous illustrations and actual ship models will be available on display to help bring to life an appreciation of these historic sailing vessels of the past!
About the Presenter: John Bieda has been involved in wooden model shipbuilding as a hobby and has enjoyed ship sailing and its history for over 45 years. He has taught various engineering courses at local community colleges and universities for over 41 years. He is currently working as a senior staff reliability engineer in the defense industry.
